Why do some of the most simple melodies make really good songs?


If you look at bands like Green Day, Foo Fighters, and Incubus, the tabs for them are relatively simple compared to something like Jimi Hendrix. How is their music sounded so ground breaking but much of it is so simple to learn? What is it that actually makes these simple tunes turn into a great piece?
