Why is it so hard for some people to just stop complaining?

The theater near my home started a program earlier this year where they hand a Deaf person a PDA to display closed captioning during a film. It just sort of hooks onto the seat in front of you so you don't have to hold it the whole time. This has been awesome for my cousin, who is Deaf, because he really enjoys movies but usually cannot see them at theaters.

Anyway we went to see Guardians last night, and this woman immediately took offense. She believed it was a cell phone. I told her it wasn't but she demanded we turn it off anyway because all the words were distracting her. When we wouldn't she went to get an employee, who after coming back with her explained the program to her. She would not accept this, and insisted that it was bothering her. The employee suggested she switch seats, but she was being stubborn. So my cousin and I moved.

Even after we moved she kept (loudly) commenting about the whole situation, like she was some hero for standing up against a Deaf kid trying to watch a movie. She literally would not shut up, to the point where someone ended up getting a theater attended to talk to her. After the film she approached me, and still wanted to argue. It was downright creepy.

What's up with people like this? Why couldn't she let go of the issue even after we'd stepped aside to appease her?

(For reference this device did not have a bright screen. It's like one of the older Kindles, where it's just text running across a neutral looking screen.)
