Almost Everything about this show is corny, imo. Besides the production value and a few of the performances, this show fails on every level, and where it fails as a quality television drama, it could easily be seen as the most expensive and ambitious soft-core, fantasy fetish, porno ever produced. Now, I'm a dude and I love me some *** and *** as much as the next brute and I clandestinely watch porn (while my girlfriend is sleeping), on a regular bases. With that being said, maybe I do take an unusual stance in believing that this show is overly indulgent with it's sexual content and that it is cheapened by these poor and tasteless applications. Unusual, because I belong to a demographic, to which this show is so transparently trying to sucker in. I'm a horny male in my mid twenty's, who is on the fence about the fantasy genre. I am not a fantasy basher though. I can appreciate anything of a certain level of quality. There is a lot of fantasy trash out there. There's a lot of genre trash out there period. Paper back romance novels, murder mysteries, crime dramas etc. There's a reason for this though, as there are droves of people shamelessly devoted to these genres. I am not one of these people. I will not read a book or watch a film, solely based on genre, nor will I dismiss stories out of genre prejudice either (except for romance novels and chick flicks. I do draw a line in the sand here. I wish I could be more mature than this, but nobody's perfect). I have read/watched droves of fantasy novels/films/comics that were absolutely brilliant and enthralling. Game of Thrones is just a lame show. I understand that plenty of people disagree. I will never know how anyone could not see it's glaring weaknesses.In most respects, it's embarrassingly bad. After watching five episodes I started making some complaints on the web. Fans of the novels kept assuring me that it would get better.My major complaint was the pace and convolution. Well, that and the fact that everything was so damned corny and than there's the soft core porn issue. Here's my view on this "just wait, it gets better" issue. I've already watched nearly five hours of this show and I only really enjoyed the first ten minutes. This isn't just "slow burn" story telling. A more accurate description of the pace would be, "here, watch this guy try to make a fire with two sticks and some kindling".At this point, I don't really care if the show does get any better. The last five hours have been yawn worthy. Not to mention that the writing and characters have been sub-par throughout. I'm really just looking for some validation here. This show should really be getting more grief, imo.
