I wrote a short story and self-published it to Kindle, but I recently took it off so I could sell it to a magazine, but?

… They won't accept it due to the fact that they buy the First Electronic Rights, and I do not have those because I have technically already published it (even if I have unpublished it). However, if I change a few parts of my story, can I technically publish it then?

Will other people be able to see the PDF files I put onto my Kindle?

So my dad got me one of those Kindle reader things. The one with the screens that look like paper. We share the same Amazon/Kindle account. I want to use my Kindle to read PDF files I've collected on my lappy, and I know you can transfer PDF files onto these devices, I'm just worried that my father would be able to see the PDF files I transfer over, which is something I very much do not want.

So would he or would he not be able to view the PDF files I transfer onto my Kindle? (My father is a very strict atheist, I'm reading religious texts - this is why I'd rather him not see them)
