What's the point of listing books on Goodreads?

My Kindle Paperwhite came with Goodreads built in. Goodreads is owned by Amazon. When I finish a book on Kindle, it automatically lists it on "my books" on Goodreads and asks me to rate it and/or write a review.
I already have a list of all my Kindle books on Amazon and I can rate/review them there. Amazon also has a book discussion forum and everything else Goodreads seems to offer. It's redundant.
I asked an Amazon service rep if I could remove Goodreads from my Paperwhite and was told that was impossible.
Why the hell is Amazon so insistent that their ebook customers have a Goodreads account?

Yesterday i purchased a book on amazon.It is kindle edition?

After buying it I can view the book on amazon's cloud reader. However the book is not showing up in the kindle app on my pc. Also when I click on manage content in amazon all that I see is some dictionaries. Why am not seeing my newly purchased book. Please help me someone, I am in serious trouble.

Children's series on Kindle for bedtime stories?

I want to start reading to my son before bed again. He really, really loves hearing stories but I'd like to find something longer that I can read to him at night like my dad with me.

Only, I'm thinking Mark Twain and Robert Frost books are a little too difficult for a five a year old boy with his attention span. Maybe something more fun.

Any suggestions?

Saving photos from Kindle book?

I'm doing a report for a college course and have a Kindle e (read on the computer) book that I am using for my data. I need the photos on the book and am using Safari browser. I cannot right click and save the photos nor will they work with alt control print screen. How can I save and use these photos in my presentation for next week? Of course, I plan to credit the author.
