I recently took a flight on Aer Lingus, an international flight that was nearly 7 hours long.
During the meal service the woman in front of me reclined her seat as far back as she could go and not gradually. This jolted hot food and tea onto my lap. The tea was so hot that it burned my inner thighs and I was wearing jeans that were now soaked with the hot tea and continued to burn.
I asked her politely to please lift her chair. She ignored me. I went to get up to get a change of clothes from the overhead bin and she was reclining so far back that I couldn't even get up out of my seat there was no room to stand. I was in the aisle seat and had to sit with my feet flat on seat knees against my chest and lift the arm rest and get out sideways just to get out of my seat.
I remained calm and tried to be patient. The woman in front of me was just reading her kindle, this was a daytime flight (3pm), she wasn't sleeping. She looked as comfortable as can be while I was miserable and uncomfortable.
She kept rocking in her seat for 4 hours smashing my knees with the plastic part of the tray on the back of the seat that was up and not in use. I actually left the flight with bruised knees and I'm only 5'5!
I had tears in my eyes from a burn that was blistering by end of flight and sore knees. Politely asked the flight attendant to ask her to adjust her seat just a little, she said "i will not, she's entitled to do and is within her rights" she told me I had the option to stand in galley
