Did Amazon ever fix the flaws in the Kindle PaperWhite?

I was thinking about getting a new eBook reader and I *had* a Paper White once before but sent it back after seeing this strange "rainbowing" effect on the screen and the "light columns" that stretched up to the top of the screen from the light emitters were annoying.

So I went back to my Kindle Touch. I notice they stopped selling the touch model and now mine is acting strange and doesn't want to turn pages half the time after one too many drops. Yeah… I'm a clutzy girl ;-).

So how's the paperwhite now? Any better than before? Is there something new on the horizon I should wait for?
